5 Things to Consider When Purchasing a Home Lift

Lifts have peaked in popularity as urbanisation around Australia took a sharp turn in the early 2000s. The country is known to be 90% urbanised, as almost all of its citizens live in urbanised areas as compared to rural areas. As buildings begin to climb higher and boomers living in residential homes steadily begin to develop difficulty in mobility, it’s almost a logical turn in the century to have a lift inside one’s home.

Are you one citizen finding a lift construction company offering to install a lift for you? Before you hit that dial button, read on to find out about several factors you need to take into consideration first.

1. Location Of The Lift

First and foremost, you should let a professional take a look at your area and assess if there is enough space for it. This addition can be bulky at worst, and it needs significant amounts of breathing space, especially the box and machine. Only an expert can determine if a lift can be installed or not, and if it’s the latter, they can most likely offer you alternatives based on your need (e.g instead of home lifts, they’ll suggest a stairlift for your senior citizen).

2. The Type Of Material And Decor For Your Lift

Who says this transportation can’t be chic or stylish? As the one deciding to install the lift, you can choose the material personally, may it be stainless steel, glass, or even wood. You can even make it so the decors match your home’s overall theme (for example modern, vintage, classic). There is no limit to the addition you choose to install as long as it’s built durably.

3. Have Complete Safety Features

The importance of lift safety is the most significant item you should look into. Before partnering up with a company, ask yourself about its credibility.

Do they have permits? Do their workers have licenses? Are they adhering to the regulations and codes relative to your state of government? These questions should all be answered by a yes and considered a deal breaker if otherwise.

Some safety features include an emergency phone, self-evacuation area or contraption, fall prevention features, and lastly fire and smoke alarms. Make sure phone signals are still working during your use.

4. Insurance

Only reputable, legitimate companies give their clients (first-time or loyal) insurance. This is both to prove their faith in their worker’s skills and to ease the client of the fear of the unknown. On top of that, it’s much better if they also offer a warranty for their installed lift, a minimum of one year.

5. Consider Who Will Use It

It can drastically change in shape and form depending on who decides to use it inside of the house. If the riders are normal, young adults to adults, a regular one should do. However, if the rider is elderly, several safety precautions should be added, such as railings, the speed of the ascend and descend, etc. On top of that, incapacitated or those riding the wheelchair will need not just a home lift but one in a platform type.
